Watch the replay of the ‘Aha Mele Lā Lei sneak peak.

2:30 pm | ʻAha Mele Lā Lei

Inspired by the ʻĀina Aloha Economic Futures declaration and Huliau Statement, Hawaiian Airlines May Day 2021: Mākaʻikaʻi will take viewers beyond the aesthetic pleasures of song, dance and storytelling. The program supports an ʻĀina Aloha Economic Future by having viewers experience “mākaʻikaʻi”, visits to endeared places, shared by “kamaʻāina”, those who are deeply rooted in these places. Enjoying mele, hula, and moʻolelo—in the ways only kamaʻāina can share—promotes an economic future of Hawaiʻi that finds success only through “aloha ʻāina”, a deep and abiding love for the places and people of Hawaiʻi.

Keauhou, the 17-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winning group, returns to headline the concert experience with special guests, Robert Cazimero and his Hālau Nā Kamalei o Līlīlehua, Manu Boyd, the Haʻehaʻe girls, Ka Lā ʻŌnohi Mai o Haʻehaʻe under the direction of nā Kumu Hula Tracie and Keawe Lopes, Hālau Mōhala ʻĪlima under the direction of Kumu Hula Māpuana de Silva, and host, Billy V.

This is a special sneak peak preview for Kanaeokana, and includes a conversation with producer Zachary Alaka‘i Lum. The official broadcast will take place later, May 1, 2021, statewide at 6pm HST on KGMB and worldwide via Facebook Live by Kāhuli Leo Leʻa, Kanaeokana, and various partnering organizations.

The Hawaiian Airlines May Day 2021: Māka‘ika‘i is brought to life with the help of the following sponsors: Hawaiian Airlines, Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, Kanaeokana, Studio Saki, Kina & Kalani, Kahuli Leo Le‘a, Walmart, and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement.
