ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi is now available on Duolingo!

In celebration of World Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we are proud to announce the release of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi on Duolingo! We are also honored that we can share this day with our cousins across the sea, the Navajo people, who are also launching their Dené course on Duolingo today.

Kanaeokana, a network of over 50 Hawaiian culture-based schools and educational organizations, has partnered with Kamehameha Schools and Duolingo, the most popular language-learning platform in the world, to launch a free online ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi course. Duolingo has over 300 million users around the world, and people have been requesting the Hawaiian language for years.

The course is available online today and via mobile by the end of the week. It was created through the hard work of highly experienced ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi specialists Ekela Kaniaupio-Crozier, Pōkiʻi Seto, Kaua Neumann, and Keoni Kelekolio. Let’s all celebrate World Indigenous People’s Day by learning an indigenous language! E ola nā ʻōlelo o ka poʻe ʻōiwi o nei honua!
